We are excited to be welcoming Sam Miller to the clan this season! Sam joins us from Oxford University RFC and Worcester Warriors and has previously been involved in the England Counties squad and London Wasps Academy.

Can you tell us a bit about your rugby journey/background to date? (How you started playing and which clubs you’ve played for etc…)
Until I was about 12 I rode horses but when I got too heavy my dad said rugby was cheaper so I should do that instead. I started out at my local club, Wallingford RFC, and went on to do county, regional age-group and Wasps Academy stuff which landed me a rugby scholarship to Harrow school. After school finished I took a year out and played for Chinnor before travelling for a bit in South-East Asia. More recently, I have been playing most of my rugby at my university and in the Varsity Matches. After Varsity I have also done stints at Worcester Warriors for their A-league side.
What did you study at University and what do (did) you do for work?
I’ve just finished Oxford with a masters in materials sciences.
If you weren’t a rugby player, which other sport/s would you play?
I love tennis and golf but I’m very much a beginner at both, maybe if I started younger I would have gone for one of them instead…
What are you looking forward to most about life in Hong Kong and playing for Hong Kong Scottish?
Moving halfway across the world to play rugby is pretty exciting all on its own. On top of that, living in such a vibrant and exciting city is motivating and I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with old friends who live/work/play rugby here. The team seems to have been working hard in the pre-season so I’m excited to dive straight in and start working with PJ and the other lads.
What should we expect from you next season (on and off the pitch)?
Sub-par chat and hopefully some turnovers.
