We are excited to welcome utility back, Ned Warne to the clan this season! Ned joins us from the UK, playing for Old Albanians in London after a previous 6 seasons in the Exeter Chiefs Academy.
Position: Utility Back
Nationality: British
Heritage: Cornish
Nickname: Pete
Favourite rugby player: Josh Lewsey
Interesting fact: Once climbed an active volcano
Can you tell us a bit about your rugby journey/background to date? (How you started playing and which clubs you’ve played for etc…)
I played for the Exeter Chiefs Academy for 6 seasons until I was 20. I doubled my rugby up with my studies and went to the University of Exeter. During my 3 years we won 2 national titles and 1 second place. I then moved to London and played for Old Albanians in National League 2 South.
What did you study at University and what do (did) you do for work?
I studied Geography at the University of Exeter and graduated in 2017. For the past three years I have been working in business development for a marketing technology company.
If you weren’t a rugby player, which other sport/s would you play?
For a team sport, I’d love to have a crack at being a footballer. Individually, I think I would enjoy the challenge of an Iron Man, although I’m not sure I’m built for that…
What are you looking forward to most about life in Hong Kong and playing for Hong Kong Scottish?
I’m a massive foodie, so I’m definitely keen to get stuck into some local cuisine, although I’m not sold on stinky tofu just yet…
I am also loving the hiking scene out here; it’s providing a welcome alternative as something fun to do whilst the nightlife is locked down.
From a rugby perspective, I am keen to get amongst it and play with the boys as they’re all good lads. From what I’ve heard, the league is a really competitive one and plays some really good, paced rugga, so I’m excited to test myself and hopefully help the team to succeed.
What should we expect from you this season (on and off the pitch)?
On the pitch you should expect a hyper-competitive, gritty, hard-working player. I enjoy running with the ball in hand and scoring tries, but defence is probably my favourite aspect of the game.
Off the pitch, I enjoy a couple of pints and a good singsong.
Do you have any hidden talents…?
Plenty of experience milking cows.
What’s your favourite pre-match song?
Either the Foo Fighters- Walk, or Spice Girls- Wannabe; both great pump-up tunes.
We look forward to seeing Ned in red and blue this season!
