We are excited to be welcoming Sal M’Boge to the clan this season! Sal joins us from Westcombe Park RFC in London and has had experiences playing with Exeter Chiefs.

Position:  Fullback/Wing/Centre
Nationality/heritage: British/Kiwi
Nickname: Sal (My name is a nickname), Blade
Favourite rugby player: Jack Maunder
Interesting fact: I was King of the ball/prom in my last year of school.

Can you tell us a bit about your rugby journey/background to date?

Growing up in New Zealand I started playing rugby when I was around 7 years with all my mates as you do. I fell in love with it and have been playing ever since. I played for a junior club called Hamilton Old Boys before starting high school. I then got involved with my high school team, St Paul’s Collegiate School, before moving over to England at the end of year 13. Over in England I’ve played for Sutton and Epsom, Old Elthamians and Westcombe Park whilst living in London and Exeter Uni and managed a couple games for the Exeter Chiefs whilst away studying in Exeter.

What did you study at University and what do (did) you do for work?

At Exeter University I studied legal studies, which is pretty much law without a couple of compulsory modules. After Uni I worked as an Account Manager, so client relations – going out and making sure our clients were happy with our service. I really enjoyed it because it was people-related rather than sitting behind a desk all day.

If you weren’t a rugby player, which other sport/s would you play?

Growing up played a few sports competitively; tennis, rowing, athletics, football. I was probably best at athletics so I would choose that.

What are you looking forward to most about life in Hong Kong and playing for Hong Kong Scottish?

Hong Kong is known to be one of the best cities to live in, so I’m looking forward to being out of my comfort zone and exploring the city in general. Also haven’t travelled round South East Asia before and being in Hong Kong makes that a little easier. I’m also looking forward to getting to know the HK Scottish lads and making some good memories both on and off the pitch.

What should we expect from you next season (on and off the pitch)?

On the pitch I like to run with the ball, using speed and footwork. Off the pitch I like having fun, socialising, trying to make people laugh. I just like to enjoy life pretty much.

Do you have any hidden talents…?

The app Subway Surfer, have the highest high score out of my friends by far.

What’s your favourite pre-match song?

Glue, Bicep – absolute banger

We look forward to seeing Sal in red and blue this season!
