Nationality/heritage: Scottish
Nickname: Tommy Tickle
Favourite rugby player: Murray McCallum
Interesting fact: I Performed at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in front of The Queen.
Can you tell us a bit about your rugby journey/background to date? (How you started playing and which clubs you’ve played for etc…)
I started playing rugby down at Hereford Rugby Club at the age of 5ish after watching my dad play for the Club. From there I played Duns (Dunfermline) minis for several years. At high school I was shipped off to Queen Victoria School where I played for the school and Dunfermline Rugby Club. I was fortunate enough to receive a rugby scholarship to Strathallan for my last two years of school. After school I played for Melrose, Heriots and Boroughmuir Bears.
What’s your professional background (qualifications etc.) and what did you do for work for Scotland?
Qualified Sports Therapist. So, like most students, I didn’t use my qualification in my job after studies! Back in Scotland I was a Rugby Development Officer for Corstorphine and Forrester Rugby clubs.
If you weren’t a rugby player, which other sport/s would you play?
Football and Golf…not that I’m any good at either of them!
What are you looking forward to most about life in Hong Kong and playing for Hong Kong Scottish?
T-shirt and shorts weather. No muddy pitches and no cold hands playing rugby.
What should we expect from you next season (on and off the pitch)?
100% attendance on socials. Hopefully a bit of excitement on the pitch.
Do you have any hidden talents…?
I can play the bagpipes.
What’s your favourite pre-match song?
‘This is the life’ by Amy Macdonald.
We look forward to seeing Tom in red and blue this season and welcoming his partner Kendal to the Club.
