We are excited to be welcoming Aussie front row, Isaac Cavu to the clan this season! Issac joins us from Northern Suburbs, playing in the Australian Shute Shield and has previously represented Fiji U20s.

Position:  Prop
Nationality: Australian
Heritage: Fijian
Nickname: Eyes, Sake (Sah-Keh)
Favourite rugby player: Toutai Kefu
Interesting fact: My Grandfather captained the 1964 Flying Fijians team that toured Wales.

Can you tell us a bit about your rugby journey/background to date? (How you started playing and which clubs you’ve played for etc…)

I was six years old when I first started playing rugby for my local club, Joondalup Brothers. I later on went to represent the U18s Western Force Schoolboys (2014/2015), and was an initial squad member for the U20s Western Force (2015).

I went back to Fiji and was grateful to get selected for the U20s National Fiji Team (2016/2017), where we toured the Gold Coast in Australia and Montevideo in Uruguay.

In 2018, I went over to Brisbane to play for the GPS rugby union club, where we won the Premier Grade competition. In 2019, I secured a contract with the New England Freejacks of the MLR, but unfortunately could not commit due to injury. In 2020, I made my way to Sydney to play for the Northern Suburbs club in the Shute Shield.

What did you study at University and what do (did) you do for work?

After rugby, I want to pursue a career as a Police Officer; it’s something I’ve really thought about over the last couple of years. While in Sydney I was working for a mattress manufacturing company in the logistics area.

If you weren’t a rugby player, which other sport/s would you play?

Touch, League or 7’s. I love the sport of rugby too much, so it would have to be one of the other forms of it.

What are you looking forward to most about life in Hong Kong and playing for Hong Kong Scottish?

I’m really looking forward to exploring the sights Hong Kong has to offer, whilst getting to meet all the boys and management. I’m also keen to learn about the culture and try all the local cuisines.

What should we expect from you next season (on and off the pitch)?

On the field, I like to see myself as a ball playing prop who likes to throw in a cheeky goose step here and there.

Off the field, I want to get involved as much as possible with social events and activities and just enjoy my time while I’m here.

Do you have any hidden talents…?

Unfortunately not, I wish I did though.

What’s your favourite pre-match song?

Normally I just listen to my most current playlist, but at the moment my pre-match song would be:

Pop Smoke - Enjoy Yourself

We look forward to seeing Isaac in red and blue this season!
