Stags win the legal league in a thriller!
The Hong Kong Scottish Stags football team were crowned Legal League Division 2 champions this weekend with a 3-4 victory over HK Krauts. Three teams headed into the last fixture of the season with options of becoming champions. The winner of the Krauts vs Stags game would be crowned champions with a draw between those two teams leaving a third team with options of winning should they take home the three points in their game.

The weatherman had been predicting heavy rain all week but got it massively wrong once again and the Stags were faced with extremely hot temperatures and a clear sunny day. The game kicked off with the opposition sitting back and Stags having most of the possession but Krauts were clinical with their chances and within 25 minutes the Stags found themselves 3-0 down. Knowing that we were playing better than our opposition, we never gave up hope and managed to claw a goal back just before half-time via a wonder strike from our left-back Joe Jenkinson. This gave the Stags a much needed boost in spirits and we came out all guns blazing in the second half. Our season’s top goal scorer Lorenzo Budini Gattai added a second goal early in the second half and Captain Myles Winter made it 3-3 with 15 minutes to go with a well taken penalty following a handball by a Krauts defender. The depth of our squad ensured that we were able to constantly get fresh rested legs out on to the field while our opposition crumbled under exhaustion from the heat. With less than 10 minutes to go, striker Jordie Rhodes slotted home a fourth goal to make it 3-4 and put us in the lead which the lads comfortably held on to. As the final whistle went, pandemonium ensued. We all believed that we could win the title but never in a million years would any of us have thought that we’d go 3-0 down only to come back from the dead. It was one of those days filled with so much emotion and joy and one that the lads won’t soon forget.  A huge thanks to everyone who came down to support us on Saturday as well as throughout the season. Another huge thanks also to each and every player in the squad - they have all played a very important part in our success this season thus far.

We now go on our tour to Phuket to play in a 7s tournment proud champions and return to a plate final the following weekend (17th of June 2017).
