Hong Kong Scottish Day 2016

Once again the unmistakable sound of bagpipes could be heard in the streets of Jordan as the Hong Kong Scottish Day 2016 got underway. Hong Kong Scottish day is the Annual celebration of Scottish culture in Hong Kong hosted by Bloomberg Hong Kong Scottish in association with the Hong Kong St. Andrew’s Society. Taking place on the 20th of August, the day started with a corporate mixed touch rugby tournament where our commercial partners were able to battle it out in a friendly and relaxed contest that included a few wildcard teams from the local touch leagues. After some impressive displays from all involved, our Ball Retrieval Team sponsor AIA came out with the Bowl and Yellow Bull touch team raised the Cup.

The day then flowed into the more serious rugby Tens tournament with both a men and women’s completion being played side by side.  The view was best from the free flow VIP area as teams from across the leagues in Hong Kong went toe to toe on the pitch. Bloomberg Hong Kong Scottish did itself proud as we came home with both the Bowl and Cup Trophies for the men’s tournament and the Valley ladies took home the silverware for the women.

In the breaks between the rugby action the family aspect of the day shone through with the children enjoying a miniature Highland Games. Sack races, welly toss and tug of war were just some of the activities that the kids participated in. The Children also had the opportunity to have their faces painted and take part in colouring in stations. In addition to these kids activities to the side of the grounds there was a towering waterslide which was a hit with those who sought relief from the heat.

As the day drew to a close the crowd gathered to watch the closing ceremonies complete with traditional pipes, drums and highland dancers.

We would like to thank all those who attended Hong Kong Scottish Day and hope to see you down next year!
